With her new album, Spíra (Sprout), Ólöf has found her joy in writing songs rekindled.

In many ways it harkens back to her debut: it is exclusively in Icelandic, the arrangements are markedly stripped back compared to her last two records, and it is mostly recorded in single takes in the control room of Sundlaugin Studio.Love has the power to elevate us–sometimes suddenly–but also gradually, patiently, out of the depths and into the heavens. In this record, Ólöf has defeated her demons, given her thanks and paid her dues; she is reborn as a living, creative being with purpose.

She is, in a word, “Lifandi” (“Alive”) and very much in love.

Platan Half Sun fjallar um innri togstreitu – þegar ólíkir partar sjálfsins takast á og vilja ólíka hluti. Þar mætast meðal annars óskhyggja og raunsæi, reiði og stjórn, eða nostalgía og þörfin fyrir að halda áfram. Lögin endurspegla þetta óvissuástand með því að vinna með endurtekin tónlistarleg mótíf sem eru skoðuð frá ólíkum sjónarhornum, þar sem andstæður túlkanir kallast á innan sömu tónsmíðar.

Mikael Máni er gítarleikari og tónskáld með persónulegan og kvikmyndalegan hljóðheim þar sem áhrif frá djass, rokki og impressjónisma mætast. Hann hefur á undanförnum árum skapað sér sérstöðu á alþjóðavettvangi, meðal annars með plötunni Guitar Poetry (2024), sem kom út hjá þýska útgáfufyrirtækinu ACT og hlaut 4,5 stjörnu dóm í DownBeat.

Fyrri verk hans hafa einnig vakið athygli, þar á meðal frumraunin Bobby, sem fékk spilun á BBC Radio, og platan Innermost, sem hlaut Íslensku tónlistarverðlaunin sem djassplata ársins. Mikael er hluti af nýrri bylgju íslenskra tónlistarmanna sem njóta alþjóðlegar viðurkenningar, og verk hans endurspegla þann nýskapandi anda sem einkennir íslenska tónlistarsenu í dag.
