On June 11th, 8th Session returns for Vol. 03, this time at Smekkleysa. What started as an intimate recorded concert series at Bar22 has grown, and the new venue reflects that. Doors at 19:00, first act at 19:30.

Four artists take the stage:
– Juno Paul, whose guitar-driven galaxy rock has been building a quiet following in Iceland’s grassroots scene.
– KARLOTTA, Icelandic electro pop with one foot in Berlin and a debut album on the way.
– Mighty Bear, Reykjavík’s most compelling electronic live act, equal parts spectacle and substance.
– Ari Árelius, a guitarist and composer pulling from psychedelic folk, spiritual jazz and Icelandic mountain funk, whose latest album earned a Song of the Year nomination at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Vagninn var stofnaður ári eftir komu Purrksins á Vestfirði 1981 og hefur beðið hans síðan. Það eru þónokkur ár.

Að fá svona hljómsveit á Vagninn er rosalegt. Þeir spiluðu tónleika í fyrra í Austurbæ og þar áður spiluðu þeir í Smekkleysu nokkur lög, þegar þeir gáfu út heildarsafn verka sinna “Orð fyrir dauða”. Ég sem skrifa þetta var þarna og kleip mig oft, því þetta var óraunverulegt. Þvílíkir meistarar, þvílíkt band.

Á undanförnum árum hefur Beving fest sig í sessi sem einn af þekktari píanóleikurum samtímans og hefur tónlist hans verið streymt í hundruðum milljóna.

Tónlist Bevings hefur heillað hlustendur um allan heim og minnir nær á sameiginlega hugleiðslu. Einfaldar en dýpri laglínur opna rými fyrir kyrrð og leiða okkur aftur að því sem raunverulega skiptir máli: tilfinningum, minningum og mannlegum tengslum.

Á þessum tónleikum í fríkirkju Reykjavíkur fær tónlist Joep að njóta sín í nánu og einstöku andrúmslofti þar sem tónarnir fá að anda og áheyrendur upplifa hana í allri sinni kyrrð og nánd.

Dutch composer and pianist Joep Beving returns to the stage in 2026 with a new album and a new series of performances shaped by the ideas and musical explorations he has been developing in recent years. His focus on themes such as change, uncertainty and renewal has led him to search for ways in which sound can create space for reflection and connection in a world that often feels in flux.

Known for his reflective and spacious piano work, Joep’s latest material — featured on his forthcoming album — moves with a sense of openness and curiosity. It balances structure and intuition, often feeling guided by both the human hand and something more organic. The pieces invite listeners into moments of stillness, movement and contemplation, where clarity and ambiguity can coexist.

These concerts bring Joep’s evolving musical language to an intimate live setting, offering audiences the first chance to experience the atmosphere and ideas that shape his new album.
