Rokk í Reykjavík again on vinyl & special show

A cornerstone of Icelandic music history is returning this November.
Rokk í Reykjavík, Friðrik Þór Friðriksson’s legendary 1982 documentary, will be screened at Bíó Paradís on November 8 at 15:00, followed by a panel discussionwith the film’s director and invited guests. The event is part of the Iceland Airwaves Off-Venue program, offering wristband holders free entry with advance reservation.

Coinciding with the screening, Smekkleysa / Bad Taste Reykjavík proudly announces the re-release of the original Rokk í Reykjavík double LP, first issued by Gramm Records in 1982.
Remastered and faithfully reproduced in its original format, the album captures the raw energy of Iceland’s early punk and new wave scene — featuring performances by Tappi Tíkarrass, Purrkur Pillnikk, Þeyr, Fræbbblarnir, Egó and others.

More than an album, Rokk í Reykjavík remains a document of a cultural revolution.
Now, over four decades later, it returns — raw, vital, and unforgotten.

A Journey Of Iceland – From Darkness to Light

American writer Erin Boggs and Icelandic artist Einar Örn have collaborated on a multiple sensory journey exploring Iceland depicted through art and poetry, featuring music from Icelandic musician Kaktus Einarsson. The book is A Journey of Iceland – From Darkness to Light. Through the experience, the audience will be immersed in the mystery and complex beauty of Icelandic environment and culture.

A Journey of Iceland exhibition will open in Reykjavik on the 1st of November until 18th of November 2024 in Listamenn Gallery and move to Ohio in March 2025

The book is both in English and Icelandic.
It is 240 x 320mm, 228 pages
It is now available as a preorder and it will be shipped October 10th 2024.

Örn&Orn exhibition Spring is here

Once upon a time, Davíð Örn and Einar Örn were out walking. Not together. Einar Örn was walking south, and Davíð was headed north. They didn’t know about each other’s walks.
As Einar Örn was walking south up Vitastíg, Davíð was walking north on Vitastíg. Both walked briskly.
Their paths met opposite Lindargötu.
They greeted each other and exchanged ideas.
This was some time ago. Their ideas had a little time to interact with each other. Until today, they decided that those ideas should be included in the spring.

The exhibition opens in Smekkleysa Coffee Shop in Hjartatorg on Thursday 16. may and is after that open during business hours.

Reggie Watts hosts a pop-show in Smekkleysa Record Shop Monday 29th of April at 8pm

Reggie Watts is an internationally renowned Musician/Comedian/Writer/Actor who most recently starred as the bandleader on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. Using his formidable voice, looping pedals, and his vast imagination, Watts blends and blurs the lines between music and comedy, wowing audiences with performances that are 100% improvised.

Watts’ first Netflix special Spatial released to massive critical acclaim, with the New York Times calling it “a giddy rush of escapist nonsense” and dubbing Watts “the most influential absurdist in comedy today.” The A.V. Club described Spatial as “signature Watts, meaning it’s alternately exhilarating, silly, exhausting and transcendent,” and Exclaim! Magazine called his performance “engaging, absurd,
thoughtful and, most importantly, wholly unpredictable.”
