Icelandic singer-songwriter Stína Ágústsdóttir has premiered a new video from the album The Whale by Stína Ágústsdóttir Trio. The album is out today via Smekkleysa and Border Music Distribution in Sweden where Stína lives. Border Music Distribution is responsible for artists such as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Arlo Parks, Mogwai, Altin Gün, Flaming Lips, Joey Badass, Khruangbin and Childish Gambino in the Nordics.
Stína is a household name within the Icelandic jazz scene. Her album Jazz á íslensku (e. Jazz in Icelandic) was one of the most popular jazz releases in Iceland in 2016.
The video for The Whale is directed by Magnús Andersen who is mostly known for his photography and videos for artists such as JFDR, Ólafur Arnalds, Samaris, Prins Póló, Pascal Pinon, Grísalappalísa and more. Magnús made his first short film in 2019 called Honor Above All.
The Stína Ágústsdóttir Trio is made up with Stína, pianist Anna Gréta Sigurðardóttir and guitarist Mikael Máni Ásmundsson. The Whale has garnered some praise in Sweden, including rave reviews in Kulturebloggen and Orkester Journalen.
