The band Purrkur Pillnikk operated for about a year and a half, from March 1981 to August 1982. Before the final concert of Purrkur, the band composed five new songs, under the title Orð fyrir dauða, and these songs were only performed on that one occasion, and indeed three years later, when the band reunited, at one concert, then with drummer Sigtryggur Baldursson.

It is safe to say that Purrkur Pillnikk has had a significant impact on the Icelandic music scene, both while the band was active and no less afterward, all the way to this day. Early this year, 2023, Einar Örn Benediktsson, Friðrik Erlingsson, and Bragi Ólafsson – Ásgeir Bragason, drummer, passed away in 2015 – decided to go to the studio to record Orð fyrir dauða, as they felt they had never properly said goodbye to these last songs. As before, Sigtryggur Baldursson was part of the group, as a member of the band, and also Örlygur Steinar Arnalds, who among other things has worked in the bands sideproject and Korter í flog.

Purrkur Pillnikk believes that the new recordings of Orð fyrir dauða are the original releases of these five songs, since they were barely ready in August 1982, just freshly composed. The idea was to make them sound as if they were written “yesterday”, as they have lived in Purrkur’s mind through the years as such, and with the arrival of Örlygur Steinars and the recording director Albert Finnbogason, the band believes they have given this music a completely new life, and in fact recreated it. The recordings were made in the Sundlaugin studio in May 2023. Curver Thoroddsen has done the remastering. The design of the box set was done by Ámundi Sigurðsson
