plata – safn compilation

This compilation is a collection of some of the most exciting electronic music coming from Reykjavík at the moment. This release is a part of the 40th anniversary celebration of Smekkleysa, who have been vital in shaping the musical history of Iceland since The Sugarcubes’ first single in 1986.

Simultaneously, the compilation celebrates the birth of the newly founded plata, a new independent label focusing on unusual, curious music, electronic or otherwise. Over the past couple of years, Reykjavík has seen the closure of most of its important nightlife venues, leaving few spaces for the more unusual side of electronic music. As a result of this, artists retreated to their studios. plata was born out of the need for all this music to be heard, and this compilation reflects this creative moment in Reykjavík’s culture in the hope of making it heard by as many people as are willing to listen. 🔊
