The Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1974 under the leadership of Rut Ingólfsdóttir. The group was founded with the objective of offering regular Icelandic public concerts of chamber music spanning the period from the Baroque through to the 20th century, while providing the musicians with diverse and challenging performance opportunities. There is no doubt, almost 40 years on, that the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra is now one of the cornerstones of Icelandic musical life.
