Flekar is an Icelandic indie-pop band which weaves synthesized and acoustic sounds into a tapestry of lo-fi gloom and detachment.
The story of Flekar started on a small motorcycle driving through dusty winding roads in remote areas in East Africa. Vignir (vocals and guitar) was at a crossroads, both literal and figurative, and that’s where the first songs were born. After returning from the desert he had quit his job, his old band, ended a relationship, run out of money and in need of a reboot. Music was the solution. Friends and kindred spirits joined in. Sibbi came first; played bass, sculpted and fleshed out the soundscapes of Flekar. The music then evolved to a place where the addition of Skúli on drums and general positivity became inevitable.
While the soundscapes are detailed and carefully orchestrated, the term ‘lo-fi’ is still applicable to the process, making a musical mosaic of offbeat pop with elements of folk and psych.
